Bill & Harlan Shropshire had a great site in Big Sky, on a south facing slope overlooking the meadow and covered with tall trees. The idea was to save as many trees as possible. The plan took a thirty degree turn in order to save the trees and keep the low side of the house from being too tall. We followed the contours and the gaps in the trees with the footprint and still managed to get all of the functionality that the Shropshires needed. I feel very proud of the fact that you can barely see the house from many areas in the meadow village. It’s the closest thing to a tree fort I’ve designed since I was 10.   In the recent years, I’ve had the opportunity to work again with the Shropshires on a deck addition, and currently on a bedroom addition to accommodate their growing extended family.
